Discussion

When project_spec is selected, version reads and writes target the project spec file (e.g. project.yml for XcodeGen) rather than the generated .xcodeproj. This keeps the source of truth file in sync.

When xcconfig is selected, reads and writes target named keys in an .xcconfig file (specPath + marketingKey/buildKey), preserving any $(VAR) indirection referenced from the project.
